Spurgeon on Politics

Not all quotes can, but this one by Charles Spurgeon stands on its own. "I have heard it said 'Do not bring religion into politics.' This is precisely where it should be brought and set there in the faces of all men as on a candlestick."

As long as it is Christian...Probably a safer proposition back in the day...

I wish he would have used the word "Christianity" instead of "religion" but I know in his day it was synonymous. Sadly not so today. Our Christianity must penatrate every area of our lives or it is not Christianity.

Nancy, it must have been too early in the morning when I first replied to your original comment. After re-reading I decided that my comment was not relevant in that I did not understand what you were saying. You're a great communicator, but early in the morning, I just didn't catch it. (saying all this in case you see I deleted my original remark).

I'm with Susan and Nancy-yes I wish it were clearer that Christian was stated, and not religion. But agree that in his day it was synonymous.

Susan, when I originally wrote this post, in its pre-publish phase, I was writing how I see as Christians that we can no longer separate the waters topically based on interest in a subject or lack thereof.(I don't like the heavy-footed dogma of so many that give no one else opportunity for discussion however). Because of the delivery of people very passionate on various subjects, I often will stear clear of those people. Not because I'm not interested. I just like breathing room for thought in these discussions.

For the Christian, we have to investigate and know where we stand, and then TAKE a stand.

Our old church(before election) was devided on this very issue. I believe that the Church body should know where the Church stands on issues, ecspecially on moral and Christian issues. Thank You for posting this.
