Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day! In our culture, our world, the role of the Godly Mother in the home is more important than ever. My own Mother has been the most Godly and greatest influence in my life.

As a young wife with four children by the time she was twenty-three, I can recall lots of meals, lots of laundry, her steadfastness in Christ, her counsel, which I still enjoy and benefit from today, her love of music, her willingness to lead when asked, her willingness to serve, her love for the Word, her hospitality, her paintscraper and paintbrush, her sewing machine hard at work making curtains or a beautiful velvet dress for me at Christmas, telling me I wasn't as skinny as I felt (of course that was then and this is now!) I remember homemade bread and butter pickles, homemade pizza, rhubarb stew (didn't care for it but I do remember it!), fish eggs in the frying pan, chocolate cakes, Mom patiently helping with my schoolwork amidst my own pool of tears, the night she braved a sleepover with a multitude of school children, hundreds of packed lunches, thousands of hugs, helping me get my bubblegum off the dog. I remember my parents not just taking us to church but being there with us, and best of all and of course most important of all, I remember the night she was attempting to grab a few private moments to take a bath, and I came next to her by the tub, and told her I wanted to ask Jesus in my heart. She was ready right then and there to pray with me. Her open heart was the door to the filled and forgiven heart resident in me today. Today, I rise up and bless my mother, Dottie....o.k. Toodie ( that one's from Gramma!). I love you Mom. A beloved Happy Mother's Day!!!

Kathy, the mother's day worship service was SO special and uplifting this morning, thank you for coordinating it. I wasn’t close to my Mom (incomprehensible to many, I know) until the last few months of her life when I lived with her while she was dying of cancer. I look forward to renewing and deepening our relationship in heaven (God is so gracious and forgiving!). Your open heart (and that of other precious sisters and brothers) is the door to the filled and forgiven heart that is growing in me today.

Beth, I love the way you put that....renewing and deepening your relationship with your Mom in Heaven-that wonderful place of no more sorrow, tears, pain, sickness, sin....that beautiful place! I think many more than we could know identify with your own experience with your Mom. I am so thankful He made it beautiful in the end. You and she have so much to look forward to together.

So glad you were blessed. I wanted it to be as much as He wanted it to be.

Kathy - thanks for stopping by and saying such sweet things. I so enjoyed this post about your Mom. My Mom has been with the Lord for 6 years now but many of the things you wrote, I could have written about her. I must admit to being a little teary (in a good way) at the end of the post.
Happy Mothers Day!

Happy Mother's day to you!! What a great tribute to your mom...except for the "rhubarb stew" part. LOL She obviously has been a wonderul influence in you life as you offer these same things to your children. They will (and do) rise up and call you blessed! Ok thats enough sappiness outta me. Talk to you later.

Any more of that sappy stuff, and I'm gonna have to fix you up a healthy portion of my Mom's rhubarb stew. Yeh, she's near perfect save the stew! : ) Thanks MaryLee-for who you are to us. Watch your step-sap everywhere!!!! : )
